Alex (Alex Sidebar) is an AI-powered coding assistant that integrates directly into Xcode as a sidebar app, bringing Cursor-like AI capabilities to iOS and macOS development. It offers features including AI autocomplete, inline code replacements, agentic error auto-fixing, image-to-code generation, semantic codebase search, and autonomous SPM package management. The tool supports multiple AI models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, local models via Ollama/LM Studio) and keeps code private by not routing it through Alex's own servers. Note: the Alex team has joined OpenAI's Codex team; new downloads stopped October 1, 2025, though existing users continue to be served.
