Safety checkedAnalyze Competitors Strategically
A skill that breaks down competitor products into smart decisions, weak spots, and strategic implications for your product.
What problem does this solve?
Analyzes competitors with strategic rigor so you understand what to copy, avoid, and differentiate on. It moves past surface-level observations to product decisions: how their pricing creates lock-in, why their API-first strategy wins them 400+ integrations, where they intentionally left gaps. It outputs specific, actionable implications rather than competitive theater.
How does it work?
- Say 'analyze competitor [company]' or 'compare us to [competitor]'. 2. Claude asks which competitor, which product or feature to analyze, and what you're building for comparison. 3. It analyzes what they built, identifies 3 smart decisions with reasoning (pricing strategy, architecture choices, go-to-market moves), identifies 3 weak spots or missed opportunities, then frames implications for your strategy: what to copy, what to avoid, where to differentiate. Output: a competitive brief with specific examples (e.g., 'freemium with usage-based trigger at week 3 yields 8% conversion vs. industry average 3-5%') and clear strategic directions.

What's required to run this?
Triggered by 'analyze competitor', 'competitive analysis', or 'compare us to [company]'. Requires inputs on competitor product, your product, and what you want analyzed. Works best with access to competitor products, pricing pages, and review data.
Key Features
Smart Decisions
3 decisions the competitor nailed, with specific reasoning. Examples: pricing model, API architecture, AI feature placement, GTM approach.
Weak Spots
3 gaps or missed opportunities. Includes evidence: app store reviews, feature requests, market segments they don't serve.
Strategic Implications
What to copy, what to avoid, where your differentiation lives. Grounded in product decisions, not design opinions.
Data Over Opinion
Every claim includes numbers: pricing tiers, conversion rates, feature adoption, App Store ratings, review counts.
