Part of Build Your Brand With Expert Frameworks
Marketing Blueprint
Safety checkedEstablish Your Unique Brand Position
Builds your positioning using Dunford's 5-component framework and Neumeier's Onlyness test.
What problem does this solve?
Establishes your unique position in your market so downstream messaging and visual identity have a solid foundation. Positioning is the first major milestone; without it, messaging, voice, and visuals lack differentiation and coherence. This skill walks through competitive alternatives, unique attributes, value, best-fit customers, and market category in the order they logically depend on each other.
How does it work?
Run brand-positioning after start routes you here. The skill detects your knowledge level and picks research-assisted (guided discovery), some-knowledge (validation + gaps), or fast mode (framework check + quality tests). It works through Dunford's five components in order: 1. What alternatives would customers use if you didn't exist? 2. What do you have that they don't? 3. What value does that create? 4. Who cares most about that value? 5. What market category frames your value? After each component, anti-slop checks run (swap test, specificity test). The skill then runs Neumeier's Onlyness test to force a specific, defensible statement. Output: brand-brief.md updated with all five components, confidence scores (validated/researched/assumed), and the Onlyness statement.

Key Features
Dunford 5-Component Framework
Works through competitive alternatives, unique attributes, value, best-fit customers, and market category in logical order, because each depends on the previous one.
Adaptive Mode Selection
Research-assisted mode for founders with no market knowledge, validation mode for those with some data, fast mode for rich knowledge. You can override anytime.
Anti-Slop Quality Checks
Swap test (could a competitor claim this?), specificity test (banned generic words?), differentiation test (is value tied to unique attributes?), business-type test (would this work for any business?).
Neumeier Onlyness Test
Forces completion of 'The only [category] that [benefit]' and extends to a six-question Trueline. If you cannot complete it specifically, the skill finds the gap.
Confidence Scoring
Each component scored as validated (customer data), researched (desk research), or assumed (hypothesis). Downstream skills flag when working on weak foundations.
