What problem does this solve?
The moment of abandonment is also the moment the shopper is still on your site, when a question answered or a doubt removed converts immediately. This workflow works both ends: proactive chat intervenes in real time while the shopper is still there, and everyone who engages but doesn't buy enters an email recovery sequence, including visitors who would otherwise have left as anonymous traffic.
How does it work?
Tidio, connected to your Shopify store, watches for abandonment signals — a shopper lingering on the cart page or showing exit intent. A Flow opens the chat proactively with an opening message you write for that exact moment, offering help while the shopper hesitates. Questions about shipping, returns, or sizing are handled by Lyro AI, and the Flow can present an incentive. If the shopper doesn't convert in the conversation, the Flow collects their email with marketing consent. Tidio's Klaviyo integration syncs that contact to a dedicated Klaviyo list, which triggers a recovery sequence offering a path back to the cart. Purchasers are suppressed so nobody gets a "come back" email after checking out.
- Tidio Flows
Build a Flow on an abandonment trigger: the Shopify abandoned cart trigger, time spent on the cart or checkout page, or exit intent. Write the Flow's opening message for a shopper hesitating at their cart rather than reusing a sitewide greeting. Route questions to Lyro AI or an agent, and use the Subscribe for Mailing node to collect the email with explicit consent if the conversation doesn't convert.
- Klaviyo
Connect Klaviyo under Tidio → Integrations and select the list that chat-captured contacts sync to. In Klaviyo, build a flow triggered by addition to that list: 2–3 emails over a few days, referencing the store and offering a path back to the cart. Add a suppression filter ("Placed Order zero times since starting this flow") so completed purchases exit the sequence.
- Deduplication check
If Shopify's built-in abandoned checkout email or an existing Klaviyo flow is already active, exclude chat-captured contacts from that flow (or this one) so nobody receives two competing sequences.
What's the biggest win?
You create recovery opportunities that don't otherwise exist: chat-captured abandoners are shoppers standard cart tracking never identifies. Two recovery layers; instant conversation and follow-up email - work the same abandonment moment instead of relying on email alone.
What's required to run this?
Shopify store: required for Tidio's abandoned cart triggers, which work with Shopify out of the box.
Tidio account with Flows: builds the proactive chat workflow on abandonment signals.
Lyro AI: answers common shopper questions (shipping, returns, sizing) in the chat without agent involvement.
Klaviyo account: receives synced contacts from Tidio and runs the recovery email sequence.
What are the constraints?
Abandoned cart triggers require a connected Shopify store; on other platforms the workflow can be approximated with page-based and exit-intent triggers, without cart-specific events. Setup spans two platforms, no coding required. Check Klaviyo's double opt-in setting for the target list: with double opt-in enabled, chat-captured contacts must confirm by email before the sequence starts, which most stores handling consent in the chat itself will want to disable for this list. Email collection in chat requires explicit marketing consent to comply with GDPR and similar regulations. Incentives in the proactive message train discount-hunting if shown to everyone: trigger them selectively.
